OR: Rescheduled wolf hearings start Nov. 19

Henry Miller

Derailed by the partial federal shutdown in October, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service has extended the comments deadline on a pair of proposals affecting wolves.

The original Oct. 28 deadline for input has been moved to Dec. 17, and three public hearings have been rescheduled, and a fourth has been added.

Those are Nov. 19 in Denver, Nov. 20 in Albuquerque, N.M., Nov. 22 in Sacramento, and the fourth, added hearing on Dec. 3 in Pinetop, Ariz.

The first proposed rule is to list the Mexican wolf as an endangered subspecies and delist the gray wolf elsewhere in the U.S., the other proposal is to improve recovery efforts for the Mexican wolf in the Southwest.

Each session will begin with a short, informational presentation.

The proposed rules, draft *Federal Register*notice with the details of the public hearings and links to submit comments are online on the Fish and Wildlife Service website.
