UNION COUNTY, Oregon – The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife reports that six adult sheep were killed by the Ruckel Ridge Pack of wolves on Monday. A sheepherder found two dead wolves Tuesday afternoon on a U.S. Forest Service sheep allotment. The next morning further investigation turned up four additional dead sheep.
Three of the sheep had been scavenged, while the remaining three carcasses were intact with very little scavenging. All six sheep were examined and they showed evidence of injuries that are consistent with wolf attacks.
ODFW investigators report that a radio-collared member of the pack was within one mile of the depredation at noon Monday.
