Park County considers joining wolf lawsuit

CODY – The Park County Board of Commissioners will discuss this week
whether they will become involved with the pending lawsuit of the state of
Wyoming against the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service over the status of
wolves.

On May 12 commissioners will consider listing Park County as an intervenor
in the lawsuit in support of the state’s position.

Wyoming Attorney General Pat Crank filed the suit last month over the
federal government’s rejection of Wyoming’s plan to manage the wolves
reintroduced into Yellowstone National Park. The state’s plan calls for
dual classification of the animals, which could allow management under
both predator and trophy game status depending on location.

Predator status was the sticking point, and Wyoming’s plan was rejected by
the Fish and Wildlife Service in January, while state management plans in
Montana and Idaho were approved.
