Russian Lumberjack Kills Attacking Wolf with Chainsaw

A lumberjack in Russian Urals killed a wolf with his chainsaw after the
animal, desperate from cold and hunger, attacked him in the woods,
Komsomolskaya Pravda daily reported Monday.

Two lumberjacks were working when they spotted a wolf.

“I felt something hit me from behind, and when I turned around I saw a
wolf,” says Sergey Tambovsky.

“I ran, and he followed me. He bit my leg once and kept following, and
then he wanted to bite me again. He ducked and was preparing to jump at
me, he was so hungry. I sawed him a little with my chainsaw, and he died
immediately.”

The wolf’s bite was not dangerous, as the animal had been weakened by
the long hunger. In his turn, Sergey hit the wolf on the spine, and the
wound was fatal.

“It is an extremely rare incident, a wolf normally doesn’t attack a man,
especially in broad daylight, especially when the man has a working
chainsaw in his hands,” said the second lumberjack, Pavel Tonkushin.

Later that day the lumberjacks ran over another wolf while driving home
in their truck.

The vets say it was the weather that forced the animals to attack
humans.

“You know what the weather was like  very cold, and the animals are
hungry. See, the wolf only had the strength to bite once, he was so weakened by
hunger. It was the last chance to survive, and the animals forgot their
fear,” said the local vet, Mikhail Pidzhakov.
