An Oacoma man who poached a wolf while moose hunting in Ontario, Canada, has been sentenced in federal court to a year of unsupervised probation.
Anthony Nogy, 35, also was ordered to pay nearly $6,000 in fines and restitution. Nogy had been big-game hunting with six friends in Canada when he shot and killed a grey wolf in September 2013. A release from U.S. Attorney Brendan V. Johnson said Nogy did not have a license to hunt wolves.
Nogy then purchased a license and had it flown into his camp, where he then tagged the wolf, the release said.
At the international boarder, Nogy declared a moose he had killed but failed to report the dead wolf. An investigation was then pursued by U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
