SE: Decision on wolf hunting in Skåne delayed

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

MALMÖ / TT

Wolf hunting in southeast Skåne is delayed until further notice. First in the next week a civil tribunal will decide whether the right to appeal should be given to the appeals court of the administrative court’s decision not to allow the hunt before the case is settled.

The Environmental Protection Agency has given the green light to hunt since wolves are believed to have killed 24 sheep in August. But that decision has been appealed to the administrative court which later takes a position on the merits of the case.

LRF Skåne and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency believes that hunting should be started immediately and has requested that the suspension is lifted.

“We wait but are willing to start the controlled hunt according to the instructions we have” said Per-Magnus Åhrén, head of the provincial government in Skåne.

He says it is difficult to know if the wolf remains. No new reports of wolf attacks or sightings of wolves has been received.
