SE: Dog owner killed wolf

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

WOLF HUNTING / TT

A dog owner shot and killed a wolf in the so-called Sjunda region, between Södertälje and Gnesta, on Tuesday morning. The shooter refers to Section 28 of the Hunting Decree that involves culling of individual initiatives to protect domestic animals and pets.

“He was out for a walk with his dog and saw the wolf coming to attack the dog. Then he yelled and fired warning shots, but without the wolf reacting,” says Arne Söderberg, inspector for the Stockholm County Administrative Board, to Jakt & Jägare.

The dog owner was not engaged in hunting but carried weapons because of the frequent reports of wolves in the area.

The killed wolf was the region’s alpha female that most likely left the puppies behind. The animal will be examined more closely at the National Veterinary Institute.
