SE: Government creates a wolf committee

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

WOLF HUNTING / TT

The Environmental Protection Agency is getting a permanent wolf committee which authorities had demanded. The government is taking several steps to get a long-term, viable wolf population, and this includes a wolf committee, writes Environment Minister Åsa Romson (MP) and Rural Affairs Sven-Erik Bucht (S) of SvD’s Focal Point.

“The overall objective of the government’s predator policies is that wolves and other predators should have called a favorable preservation status – while tending domestic animals is not significantly more difficult and socioeconomic conditions are taken into account,” they write.

The committee shall serve as a reference group to the government and composed of representatives of the groups that were previously included on a predator Committee.

Several other measures: the Environmental Protection Agency is commissioned to investigate the favorable preservation status of the wolf, the Agriculture Department to investigate safeguards needed to prevent wildlife attacks and the government shall review the regional wildlife management delegations.
