The offspring of immigrant wolves have had it easier finding a partner, compared with the offspring of inbred “completely Swedish” wolves.
This is shown by wolf research Skandulv.
The Swedish wolf population has long suffered from inbreeding. In the winter of 2007/2008 immigrants, however, two wolves soon found was their partner, with whom they had pupa the following spring and for a number of years, writes the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences in a press release.
Why these wolves have had it easier to find a partner the scientists do not know. It may be due to better survival or a better ability to attract a new partner, they speculate.
