It was proper to authorize the hunting of the so-called Junsele wolf last winter. The appeals court rendered this judgment on Friday.
The EPA decided on hunting the wolf female since she killed a number of reindeer in the territory, but the decision was appealed by several environmental organizations whereupon the hunt was stopped. Eventually it ended up as the subject of appeal which now – a year later – the final decision dealt with the matter.
According to the appeal was the damage inflicted by the wolf female on reindeer so serious that culling was the only reasonable solution.
The female wolf has now, along with the male that she paired with, killed more reindeer in the Junsele region. On Thursday the Protection Agency decided that the two animals may be shot. In the current situation, it is unclear whether this decision will be appealed.
