SE: New wolf territory with important DNA

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

LULEÅ / TT

A new wolf pair has established a territory in Tornedalen in Norrbotten. DNA analyses show that at least one of the wolves is an immigrant Finnish-Russian wolf, according to the EPA.

The wolves move in an area where there are reindeer and the Sami have requested a controlled hunt of animals.

“We are now considering how to handle the situation, because wolves are genetically important. Culling is not excluded, but we will put great emphasis on the assessment of whether there are other possible actions to take,” says Helene Lindahl, administrator at the Environmental Protection Agency.
