SE: No wolf hunting in Värmland

There will be no license to hunt wolves in Värmland and Örebro County. The Administrative Court in Karlstad overturned today the county administrative board’s and the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency’s permit to hunt for a total of 26 wolves.

According to a press release from administrative law the hunt is not compatible with the protection of the wolf population in the EU directives and Swedish legislation.

“The Administrative Court considers that the county administrative board’s purposes of hunting may be acceptable purposes for allowing such exemptions licensed hunt for wolves means. But for it to become a licensed hunting requires stronger evidence that hunting gives the result that the county administrative board’s pointing to,” said Judge Marie -Jeanette Axelius Friberg in the press release.

The hunt would continue for January and mid-February never began, but was stopped in anticipation of today’s announcement.

The ruling means that there is no hunt in the two counties, in the same way as in Västmanland. In contrast, going hunting in Gavleborg and Dalarna has already had to close.
