Two wolves from the territory Åmot / Ockelbo can be shot through a cull, the County Administrative Board of Gävleborg has decided. The animals have been hunting for deer too close to populated areas, writes the provincial government.
“The wolves affect the people who live in the area, among other things, that they had to adapt behavior and avoid staying out in the woods and fields, to not use the trails, to keep pets inside and not let the children go alone to daycare/preschool,” writes the provincial government.
It also states that the wolves behavior is “liable to be reinforced and strengthened” and that the animals are seen more frequently and have become less timid. Many people are affected and there are no alternative solutions, according to the provincial government.
The hunt will take place between 23 March and 20 April in a defined area and must be preceded by observations or tracks near or in urban areas.
