After clear signs that the illegal hunting of wolves fell a few years ago there are now fears from researchers who hold that poaching is increasing again.
“I have spoken to many people from different parts of the country about the illegal hunting. They say almost unanimously that they are convinced that it is now increasing,” says Olof Liberg, coordinator of the Scandinavian wolf research group Skandulv.
He is one of many participants at the symposium wolf in Vålådalen noting that the polarization in the wolf debate has increased. An indication of this can be increased poaching.
“Now we have no good data for the past two years, but the recent new testimony given says it is now rising sharply again,” says Liberg.
