SE: Scanian wolf must not be shot

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

MALMÖ / TT

The wolf in the last month suspected of damaging and killing several sheep, in Scania’s Osterlen shall not be shot. It has been the administrative court in Stockholm that decided this and therefore rescinds the Environmental Protection Agency’s decision.

“Environmental Protection Agency’s decision is inadequately reasoned in terms of alternative solutions. It has been said that the fence is too expensive and we think it requires a little more,” says Mia Svärd, Administrator at the Administrative Court, said.

The Court has ruled, however, that the wolf caused great damage and the wolf is not genetically important to the wolf population.

“There are certain criteria to be met for the wolf to be shot but concrete data is lacking on the preventive measures to be carried out,” she said.

The decision may be appealed to the civil court.
