SE: Sheep owner gets a quarter of a million after huge wolf attack

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

Lars Olof Lyrdal on Ulkeröds farm in Hedekas is getting 248,000 Swedish crowns (about 28,500 US$) in compensation after his sheep were attacked by wolves.

It was last summer that the wolf gave on 38 ewes, and now the provincial government compensates the sheep owner for the damage.

The sheep were attacked in their paddock which was fenced on three sides with an opening to a lake, and it was the opening the wolf or wolves used to get in. Afterwards Lars Olof Lyrdal put up several kilometers predator fences.

Then Environment Minister Lena Ek also visited the farm after the attack and Lyrdal then expressed his view that the wolf population is too large, and more wolves should be shot.
