SE: Shot wolves young and healthy

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

NATURE / TT

Half females. Half males.

This was the result of this year’s license to hunt wolves in Värmland, Dalarna, Örebro County.

National Veterinary Institute (SVA) has investigated the killings and found that of the total of 44 wolves an equal number of each sex was shot. The majority, 26 animals, were barely one-year animals.

“Mange as the most obvious disease was seen, with widespread skin lesions on a few animals,” said assistant state veterinarian Erik Agren in a press release.

Moose meat was the most common contents of their stomachs.
