SE: Symposium: The wolf has returned to Denmark

VÅLÅDALEN / TT

The illegal hunting of wolves may have increased recently.

“We have had an unusually high turnover among wolf pairs lately. It may be an indication that more wolves killed. In such cases it may be due to increased poaching, but we do not know with certainty,” says Olof Liberg, a researcher at the Scandinavian wolf project Skandulv, at the ongoing wolf symposium Vålådalen.

He stresses that the increased turnover has not had any effect on population size yet.

At the wolf symposium Danish scientists will tell us about the wolf’s return to Denmark also. After having been away from the Danish fauna for 199 years the species has returned to many people’s delight and horror of others.
