SE: There will be more wolves in Västmanland

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

The wolves are increasing in number in Västmanland. According to the county administrative inventory from last year, puppies have been bred in three of the five territories that affect Västmanland.

Västmanland County consists of a total of five wolf territories and two of these are entirely within the county’s borders. The other wolf territories are shared with Dalarna County and Örebro County.

During the survey conducted in 2013 documented thus puppies in three of the wolf territories. So there are about 18 wolves in the county overall.

“We have been able to track the puppies during the winter,” said Daniel Mallwitz who is wildlife officer at the provincial government in Västmanland.

Additionally wolves pass through the county regularly, according to the provincial government and is more likely to encounter a wolf in the northern parts of the county.

“Now there has been a new spring, 2014, and probably have been born new litters but we do not know yet. We’ll have to wait until winter to see what has happened in the county,” says Daniel Mallwitz.
