For the third time in a week sheep have been attacked and damaged in Skåne. During late Friday night four sheep were destroyed in Ingelstorpsvägen outside Ystad. The damage suggests that a wolf was on the run, according to Bertil Nilsson, predators officer at Skåne County Administrative Board.
Last weekend nine sheep were killed outside Horby and Tuesday night another six in Sjöbogatan.
“There is not one hundred percent sure that it’s the same wolf. But it is likely the same wolf that had been there,” says Bertil Nilsson said.
Earlier this week the provincial government was advised against the hunting of wolves, in a statement which stated that Environmental Protection Agency makes the decision.
“The guidelines say that culling may be necessary if three attacks within six months. But we still do not know who the individual wolf is,” says Nilsson.
A new request is needed for the provincial government in Skåne will consider the issue of culling again.
