SE: Translocated wolves have puppies

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

News P4 Värmland

The wolf couple that was moved from Norrbotten to Tiveden in Örebro County earlier this year have puppies. Since both wolves were relocated every puppy is largely unrelated to our Scandinavian wolves and therefore very valuable for reducing inbreeding in the Swedish wolf population.

The wolf couple must have had at least five puppies says Magnus Kristoffersson of the Environmental Protection Agency. But if all the puppies will survive is at present uncertain.

“It’s pretty tough to be wolves, and on average it is one of four pups that survive”
