Since October last year, seven hunting dogs have been attacked by wolves, mainly in Dalsland, but also in Bohuslän. It is unusually many and it is not just one wolf who is to blame for the attacks.
“We have a situation in the county where we probably have several wolves that are highly territorial and who see dogs as a strong territorial threat and choose to attack them precisely because of that,” says Nelly Grönberg, predators officer at the county board of Västra Götaland, to P 4 West.
Some dogs survived, but most died. Wolf attacks have taken place in several locations in Dalsland. At the end of December a wolf was shot during culling in the Kroppefjäll territory, where there have been attacks on several sheep and a dog.
In Västra Götaland, there are at least three wolf territories but previous wolf attacks on dogs only happened a few times a year.
Attacks on dogs vary widely across the country and over the years.
