SE: Wolf Committee’s proposal welcomed

Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

STOCKHOLM / TT

Yes to simplified culling, to licensed hunting and that the wolf negative impact has not received sufficient attention. In a statement to the Government is welcomed by the Swedish Hunters Association, the Swedish Kennel Club and the Swedish landowners union proposals in the last week from the Wolf Committee.

The three believe that the wolf population so-called favorable conservation status should be determined politically, not an through an agency, and that the population level has been reached already.

They write that the wolf’s impact on domestic livestock and hunting with dogs is not adequately covered and that the owners of dogs killed should be compensated as well as for lost livestock.

The Committee suggested that hunting of wolves routinely be granted at the first attack on free-range cattle. The rule should also apply to attacks against dogs the three consider in their opinion.
