A wolf was found dead north of Arvika in August had met an unexpected fate. A twelve inch long, fresh spruce twig had gone down into one of the wolf’s lungs and punctured it, so that the animal is bled to death.
“It must have run into it with an open mouth in some unfortunate way,” says Jessica Åsbrink who necropsied the wolf at the National Veterinary Institute, told the newspaper Swedish Hunting.
The wolf was found by a roadside by a mushroom picker. The police launched an investigation into hunting violations, but that investigation is now closed.
