All classes outdoors at Åbyggeby school just north of Gavle have been cancelled since wolves were visible in the area.
“The wolves should not be dangerous, but we do not know and do not dare take a chance”, says preschool teacher Veronica Sundqvist to gd.se.
The school has pupils up to grade 3 and usually they have once a week what is called outdoor education where classroom instruction is moved into the forest.
The wolves were seen for the first time at the school in mid-February and the school caretaker told the newspaper that he saw them nearby last Friday.
The current wolf territory extends from Åmot in the northeast and through central Ockelbo to about 20 km further south.
Due to local residents concerns about a wolf pair has Ockelbo municipality applying for a culling, but the Environmental Protection Agency has said no because the wolves were not threatening or aggressive.
