Roughly translated by TWIN Observer

MALMÖ / TT

The EPA says yes to hunting of wolves in southeast Skåne, where 23 sheep have been killed during August. After four wolf attacks in less than two weeks the Environmental Protection Agency considers that culling is the only solution.

In the long run, however, the activity stated in a press release, such as the importance of prevention like proper fencing to protect livestock, since it is thought that in the future that there will be wolves in Skåne.

“It was a pleasant surprise! I was not expecting the news, not after it said no to Kronoberg for its application early in the spring,” says Stig Lundström, Deputy Regional President for LRF Skåne, which filed for hunting of wolves. “But it indicates that in all cases there is justice in the Swedish predator policies,” he continues.

The decision to cull apply during the period from 21 August to 11 September.

Last week, after two wolf attacks, the provincial government was advised against hunting since wolves were found to be genetically valuable. But a third attack on August 10 the provincial government considered a hunt for the wolf is warranted to prevent further attacks.

The EPA has received nine applications for culling.
