Timber Wolf Shot In Monroe County

Conservation wardens with the state Department of Natural Resources are investigating the shooting of a timber wolf in Monroe County.

The dead wolf was discovered Sunday by a deer hunter. The wolf was found in Monroe County in the Town of New Lyme, an area known to be inhabited by wolves. Two DNR wardens found the wolf and made a preliminary determination the wolf had been killed by a firearm.

Wolves are currently listed as an endangered species in Wisconsin by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service.
