Two Labrador residents being treated for rabies after wolf bites
September 18, 2002
GOOSE BAY, Nfld. (CP) — Two people are being treated to prevent rabies
after being bitten by wolves in Labrador.
A senior wildlife official said humans are largely to blame for the
attacks near Cartwright, Nfld.
Workers on the Trans-Labrador Road began feeding the wolves as pups
and the animals have lost their fear of people.
Provincial veterinarian Hugh Whitney said Tuesday that long-time
residents of Labrador are well aware of the risks. But he said people new
to the area might find novelty in seeing wolves.
Whitney said people should stay away from the wolves and not feed
them.
