Eau Claire, WI (Northland’s NewsCenter) — Rules to allow training for dogs in the upcoming wolf hunt have been rejected by the Wisconsin Natural Resources Board during their September 26th meeting.
According to Kurt Thiede, the Land Division Administrator, the board did not allow wildlife officials to write emergency dog training rules for the 2012 wolf hunting season that will start on October 15th.
However, the board did allow officials to begin writing up dog training rules into the wolf hunt for the 2013 season that will be up for approval at a later date.
Thiede also said sometime next month, officials with the wolf hunt will take their case back to Dane County Judge Peter Anderson with what was said during the Natural Resources Board meeting and ask him to lift the injunction on the use of dogs in the Wisconsin wolf hunt.
This decision stems from the injunction placed on the use of dogs in the wolf hunt by Judge Anderson after several humane societies sued the DNR for allegedly not placing adequate rules that would require hunters to train their dogs to track wolves.
