Wisconsin Wolf Hunt Begins this Week

Associated Press

Wisconsin’s third annual wolf hunt gets underway this week.

The season opens Wednesday and will run until Feb. 28 or until hunters and trappers reach the 150-animal statewide kill limit. The Department of Natural Resources has awarded 1,500 permits, or 10 permits for every wolf. As of Thursday 699 Wisconsin residents and five non-residents had claimed their permits.

The hunt will take place in six zones, each with its own individual kill limit. Zone 3, which includes parts of Barron, Burnett, Washburn, Rusk, Chippewa, Taylor and Sawyer counties, has the highest limit at 40 animals.

Hunters can use up dogs to track wolves beginning Dec. 1.
