Wolf hunt proposal to be presented to DNR
MILWAUKEE — The chairman of the Wisconsin Conservation Congress is expected to present a proposal about hunting wolves today.
The presentation before the state Natural Resources Board will make a case for allowing the hunting of wolves be allowed in Wisconsin now that they’ve been re-established here.
Ed Harvey will appear before the board at a meeting in Milwaukee.
Hunters, anglers and others who attended Conservation Congress hearings around the state last month voted overwhelmingly in favor of developing a hunting season on wolves.
The proposal is advisory.
The federal government removed wolves from the endangered species list a year ago, deciding the population had rebounded to stable levels in Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota.
