Wolf plan should be ready at end of July

CHEYENNE, Wyo. (AP) – The Wyoming Game and Fish Department expects to have a final wolf management plan completed and ready for internal review later this month, an official said.

The final plan will then be submitted for state Game and Fish Commission approval at its meeting July 28-29 in Sheridan.

Wyoming, Idaho and Montana must have federally approved wolf plans in place before the animal can be removed from the endangered Species List.

Bill Wichers, Game and Fish deputy director of external operations, said he thinks the agency can work within the existing framework of the law passed by the 2003 Wyoming Legislature and still develop a plan acceptable to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.
