Wolves kill dog in Jackson County

BLACK RIVER FALLS — Wildlife officials have confirmed that wolves killed a hound Sunday that was chasing coyotes on Jackson County forest lands in the town of Komensky northeast of Black River Falls.

It appears that two or three wolves attacked and killed the 5½-year-old Plott hound, according to the state Department of Natural Resources. Two other dogs were uninjured.

Wildlife officials warn hunters to be aware of potential conflict with wolves in the area bordered by Pray Road to the east, Highway 54 to the south, Highway K to the west, and the Black River, Lake Arbutus and East Branch Black River on the north.
