WY: Proposal to raise wolf quota discussed May 15

By STEVE BROWNE

Park County people will have an opportunity to weigh in on a controversial wildlife issue: wolves.

A public meeting will be 6-8 p.m. Thursday, May 15, in the basement of the Big Horn Federal Savings Bank.

The proposal is to raise the wolf quota to 43 in the trophy game management areas for 2014. Last year the quota was 26 and in 2012 it was 52.

G&F officials will be on hand to explain the proposal and take public comments.

Comments from meetings statewide will be evaluated by the Game and Fish Commission on July 7-9 before final approval.

Hunting quotas for wolves apply in trophy game management areas of northwest Wyoming. In predator zones, wolves can be taken at any time of the year.

In Park County the trophy game management area is west of WYO 120.
