WY: Two wolf hunt areas close

Gray wolf hunt area 6 closed at 2:30 p.m. Oct. 20 in the Jackson Management Unit in the Jackson area when hunters killed the area’s limit of three wolves. Area 4 in the Absaroka Management unit in the Cody area closed at 1:30 p.m. Sunday when hunters killed the three-wolf limit.

Trophy hunt areas close when the mortality quota is reached or at the end of the season on Dec. 31. These are the first two areas to close since wolf hunting opened Oct. 1. As of Monday, hunters have killed 22 gray wolves in Wyoming’s trophy management areas.

Wolf hunters should pick up a copy of the 2012 Gray Wolf Hunting Regulations and call the Gray Wolf Mortality Quota Hotline 800-264-1280. Information on hunt area closures and quotas are updated daily.

Any wolf harvested in the Wolf Trophy Game Management Area or the Seasonal Wolf Trophy Game Management Area must be reported by calling the hotline within 24 hours and the pelt and skull must be presented by the licensee within five days to a game warden, wildlife biologist or Game and Fish regional office for registration.
